Frequently Asked Questions About My Tampa Studio Art Classes

When does the next class begin?

I offer open studio classes. In these 3 hour sessions, anyone can join at any time. I instruct each student individually, at their particular level, and in whatever medium they choose to explore. There’s plenty of individual attention, but also we learn together as a group, through demonstration and topics that arise during class.

Is any drawing and painting experience required to take your class?

No experience is necessary.  I believe that anyone can learn to draw or paint! Absolute beginners are welcome. If you have little or no skills in drawing or painting, you can learn these quickly and easily in my class. I can offer the beginner lessons designed to speed up the process.  All that is needed by you is the desire to learn.

What the average number of students in each class?

Generally, there are no more than six to eight students attending any given class. This offers each student an abundant amount of individual attention.

What materials are required?

That depends on what your goals are. If you want to learn beginning drawing or painting, I prefer to keep your investment low. If you are an intermediate or advanced student, you can start with the materials you already have, but I’ll evaluate what to buy to supplement those materials.

Is it necessary to attend every class?

It is not necessary to attend every class. You can attend a full month’s classes,  or pay by the class and attend when your schedule allows. I offer a discounted fee for paying in advance for a month of classes.

What mediums do you offer?

The most popular art mediums are offered: graphite pencil, charcoal, pastel, color pencil, watercolor, oils and acrylics. I have over 40 years of experience teaching all of these mediums. Each student works in their preferred medium, so you will find several different mediums in any given class.

What genres, styles and/or subjects do you offer?

Every major genre and subject is offered, for example: still life, landscape, seascape, portrait, figurative, and wildlife genres; classical, realist, impressionist, and abstract styles; basic drawing, basic painting, basic color pencil, color mixing, and knife painting.
